Where is the Change that was Promised?

Barack Obama is still two months from taking office, but he is already going back on a campaign promise....Change. "Change We Can Believe In" has given way to the same ole Washington insiders. First to get the nod was fellow Illinois hack Rahm Emanuel, a veteran of the Clinton administration. Next up is Eric Holder, who was the Justice Department's No. 2 man when Sen. Clinton's husband was president. Holder, as Deputy Attorney General under Janet Reno during the Clinton Administration, said that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual right to bear arms, but instead protects the right to have a firearm when serving with a militia. After leaving office, Holder signed Janet Reno's brief to the Supreme Court in the Heller case, which stated, "The Second Amendment does not protect firearms possession or use that is unrelated to participation in a well-regulated militia." So much for Obama being a supporter of the Second Amendment. Holder is also linked to the Mark Rich pardon at the end of the Clinton years. But, keep in mind that Denise Rich raised and donated more than $1 million to the Democratic Party and also provided the Clintons directly with a $10,000 contribution to their legal defense fund and $7,300 worth of furniture. All is forgiven.

Now move to Hillary herself, who sources say will accept the Secretary of State post. Do you see any change yet? Let's not forget about Tom Daschle. He has been tapped for the Department of Health and Human Services to spot. That chair controls almost a quarter of all federal spending. After his defeat in the Senate, Tom stayed in D.C. to "advise" public policy on health care with the firm of Alston and Bird. Daschle's wife was acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration in the Clinton administration and is one of Washington's top lobbyists. Change? Anyone see change in these positions?

The first thing to remember is that since you're opposed to all things Obama, there can be no appointments that would satisfy you, but as one who has suffered through the eight years of Bushism, I fully understand the need to vent.

If Obama were to appoint untested officials, you'd be criticizing him for that.

I interpret Obama's mandate as changing what has been so repugnant and odiferous during the past eight years of imperial doltery. As such, he might appoint the Simpsons, Metallica or a half a dozen regulars at the pub, and be able to achieve the goal at hand.

Then again, my default is slightly different than yours. That's what makes it fun!!

Not really my definition of fun. I really didn't expect a warmed over version of the Clinton cabinet when Mr. Obama ensured change. Although his brand of politics in not mine, I feel that there were other choices of members that were just as qualified to contribute to the administration. You might not have likee the last 8 years, as I didn't like the 8 before that particularly well...but now it seems as though we are stuck in some horrible time warp where the name of the president has changed, but the key players are all the same. I hope in another 4 or 8 years we are not looking at Jeb's cabinet posts. Time to move on. Tom Daschle and Eric Holder, seriously?

Daniel,

I have been thinking that very same thing. There is going to be NO change because of all the Washington same old insiders being appointed to everything. But hey, it got him elected didn't it?

To the New Albanian: I love your comments. You are SO INTELLIGENT!!!! I can't wait to read your comments to see what my new word of the day is! Let's see, will it be "odiferous" today or "imperial doltery"? HA HA You're not fooling anyone with that garbage! Hey maybe Obama will appoint you as his Secretary of Education since you are so smart! Oh wait, you don't qualify. You haven't been in Washington for years. Oh well. Don't worry though, I will be checking back each day to see what morsels you have left for me to consume. Oh to be as smart as you!

Doc

I'm a known entity. You're an anonymous coward.

I'll take that trade-off any day.

here's your big word for the day: Yellow.

Roger, tell me you are not satisfied with Obama's choices? It is ok to not drink the kool-aid lager on this one. BTW, I know Doc, and that is no coward you are talking to, so please don't be a jackenapes.

Oh "R", I seem to have hit a nerve. So sorry to step on your "known entity". It just seems funny to me that you can criticize Daniel day after day and then when someone says something to criticize you, you suddenly go from an intellectual to a childish name caller. But that's OK, you can call me a coward even though I am the only one to tell you what I think. Makes a lot of sense to me! And I never take anything without giving something in return. Since you gave me a color word of "yellow", here's one for you: GREEN! See ya R.

A news update regarding FAA, “Bobby” Sturgell, and the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign, follows:

1. Bobby Sturgell Ejected. While Team Obama deliberates on the choice of new USDOT and FAA heads:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/05/AR2008120503320.html
failed FAA Acting Administrator Robert Allan (“Bobby”) Sturgell is thankfully already reported to have given a “Farewell Speech”, according to resources like ABC News, the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, and Flightglobal. As the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign was “Bobby” Sturgell’s pet-elver project, and as “Bobby” Sturgell is accountable for 3,500-and-climbing aviation fatalities occurring on his abominable FAA watch - see, e.g.,:
http://indictsturgell.blogspot.com/2008/10/failed-faa-pilot-bobby-sturgell-racks.html

at Quiet Rockland, we say to “Bobby” Sturgell:

Auf Wiedersehen, Aal!

2. Quiet Rockland Petitions Obama. Quiet Rockland recently wrote and posted President-Elect Barack Obama a letter:
http://removesturgell.blogspot.com/2008/11/quiet-rocklands-appeal-to-president.html
In this letter, we have asked our next President to please scrap the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign, treat Air Traffic Controllers properly, infuse an Oberstar-ian “Culture of Safety” in American aviation, repopulate FAA with responsible ingenuous officials, and select a new FAA Administrator who delivers those objectives.

In this regard, Quiet Rockland asks that you please review our letter, and then write President-Elect Obama and his colleagues a letter of your own to same effect.

3. ATCs Win. Our heroes the Air Traffic Controllers won another righteous victory on December 4. You’ll enjoy the photo:
http://www.natca.org/rss/build-contract-first-120508.aspx
From NATCA’s website: “[A]t the FAA’s ground-breaking ceremony for the new Command Center set to open in Warrenton, VA in 2011, a plane was spotted flying with a banner trailing behind it. The message read: “FAA, Let’s Build ATC Contract First!” How’s that for raining on the FAA’s parade?”.

Imagine. Embarrassing FAA management with an AIRPLANE. What fools those aero-publicists be.

4. Blogging Record. Quiet Rockland set its own new blogging record last month: 37 blogs posted during the month of November, 2008. You may recognize some of the persons depicted in the pictures. An index of links to recent photoblogs, with titles, appears at:
