I received the email just after midnight and it confirmed what Mike had told me in confidence after Sunday service...he is once again running for the 9th district congressional seat. The email text follows:

Mike Sodrel announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination for Indiana's 9th Congressional District.
"The Obama administration and Pelosi's Congress are doing all the wrong things. They have spent the last year on health care legislation. We need to get the economy back on track. We need to create real jobs, not another huge government bureaucracy. And you don't pull a country out of an economic slump by hurting the people who do the hiring. Additional taxes, government takeovers and programs like 'cap and trade' would do just that."
"I've been in business for years and we've faced hard times before. The way out of those hard times never came from higher taxes or more regulations or a government takeover."
"We cannot keep spending money in hopes of spending our way out of debt. We are writing checks that our grandchildren are going to have to pay. We are printing money and eroding the value of the savings of hardworking Americans. The debt we are creating with short-term spending today will be a long-term burden for generations yet unborn. For their future and for the future of our county, this cannot continue."
"For many years," Sodrel said, "I've worked hard to make my business a success; the same principle countless other small businessmen and women across America follow. These are the same principles that are needed now, more than ever, to return prosperity to America. This country needs less government, not more. It needs more liberty, not less. It needs less debt and lower taxes. It needs to return to the founding principles that made our country a great nation, and that will preserve that greatness for our children and our grandchildren. That's why I am running for Congress."
Mike Sodrel has been married to Keta Sodrel for 42 years, is the father of two and the grandfather of seven. He is a member of Graceland Baptist Church in New Albany. He served in the National Guard and is a member of the American Legion. He served as Congressman from the 9th Congressional District from 2005 to 2007.
Sodrel is the former CEO of Sodrel Truck Lines and Sodrel Logistics, and founded the Free Enterprise motor coach company in 1976, He logged over a million miles as a commercial truck driver and helped created over 600 good paying jobs.
He has served on the boards of numerous charitable organizations in southern Indiana, including the Providence House for Children in Georgetown, and he has served as a past regional council president of the Boy Scouts of America.
The Clark County Republican Party is hosting kickoff event for the Sodrel campaign at their headquarters, located at 2946 E 10th St, Unit 5 in Jeffersonville (behind the BMV License Branch). You are invited to come over and meet Mike Sodrel from 5pm to 7pm.

Thanks for running again Mike Sodrel. We need you and you have my support. Just get tough in your campaign. Barron left you LOTS of ammunition over the past 2 years. Use it!
Perhaps we should be looking elsewhere for representation in DC?

The recent poll by the liberal Fire Dog Lake Blog should raise the hair on the back of our necks! It shows Mike Sodrel leading Baron Hill by eight percent. Good News? I don't think so.
The liberals know their best chance to win our seat this year is a Hill-Sodrel race. Mike Sodrel was ousted in 2006 when We The People rebuked the out of control spending by Republicans masquerading as conservatives. As that sentiment grew he was once again defeated in the 2008 General Election. The Fire Dog Lake people know that and desperately want a Hill-Sodrel match up!
If we are truly discontent, and I know we are, we need to have a changing of the guard during the primary. A Baron Hill-Mike Sodrel race sends a message to Washington that we are okay with business as usual. That is not our message!
It is time to pass the baton and get a fresh start. We then must remain vigilant and be willing to recall any representative that says one thing when here in the district and acts another way in Washington!
Most of us visiting this site are probably Republicans, but a lot of our family, friends, and neighbors that vote Democrat share many of our values. They feel betrayed by their party just as we do. Sadly during this primary they will not have a choice, they will not have a voice, but we will!
Mike Sodrel is a good man, but this November the Hill campaign will paint him as the Republican Party establishment candidate which will quite effectively turn off voters wanting to send a real message to Washington. That will drain the energy from a fifth Hill-Sodrel race that will be low energy already! It will not tap into the discontent felt by the vast majority of us!
Our district is pretty evenly divided. Both major party candidates need to attract voters from the other party to win. During the General Election we will likely lose 4% to 5% to Eric Schansberg if he once again runs as the Libertarian Candidate and in the current political environment, maybe more.
Faced with another Hill-Sodrel race Eric would represent our only real choice to send a clear message to the party chiefs in Washington. Best case scenario, Republicans will need to pick up at least 6% and better if it is 10% from our Democratic friends to win the district.
Democrats have rejected Mike Sodrel three out of four elections. They will not be excited by the prospect of sending him back to Washington! If Mike is our candidate we will only win if we can get a solid 6% to 10% of Democrats voting against Baron Hill because I do not believe they will be voting for Mike Sodrel!
Let’s send a real message to our local party establishment and our national party establishment. Let us pass the baton to one of these young men and show we really mean what we say!
Eric is not running again. He has signed on to help Travis Hankins in his bid as a Republican. Looks like another steel cage match between Sodrel and Hill and the outcome will be different this time around.
